As Seen In Insider Weekly: Why Veterans Need a Military-Tested Approach to Profit

I’m not usually one to spend a lot of time looking in the rearview mirror: I’d much rather be looking through the glass at the next objective. But every once in a while, a milestone pops up that’s worth a tactical pause.

Recently, Insider Weekly featured Guardian Business Coaching in an article titled “Business Coaching Firm Targets Veteran Entrepreneurs With Military-Tested Approach.” That headline is basically my mission statement: take what I learned as a U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer and apply Military Precision to the thing that keeps business owners up at night—profit.

Here’s the article (worth the read): Insider Weekly — “Business Coaching Firm Targets Veteran Entrepreneurs With Military-Tested Approach”

They wanted to know why so many veteran and first responder-led businesses are struggling to hit their full potential despite having the best work ethic in the world. They wanted to know why "standard" business consulting is failing the men and women who served our country.

The answer is simple: Most consultants speak "Corporate Fluff." Veterans and first responders speak "Mission Accomplished."

If you’ve transitioned from a life of service into the world of business ownership, you’ve likely realized that the "civvie" world of entrepreneurship is a bit of a chaotic mess. You have the discipline. You have the drive. But you might be missing the specific, military-tested framework required to turn that effort into actual, bankable profit.

Let’s break down why a generic approach doesn't work for us, how I made the transition from Senior Chief to business coach, and how we’re changing the game at Guardian Business Coaching.

The Transition Trap: From Service to Small Business

When you leave the military: in my case, after serving as a US Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer: or you retire from a career as a Detective in the Sheriff’s Department, you carry a specific set of tools. You know how to lead under pressure. You know how to follow a standard operating procedure (SOP). You know that "good enough" usually gets people hurt.

But when you open your own business, people start handing you books about "finding your why" and "visualizing success."

Look, mindset is important, but you can’t pay your payroll with a vision board.

Veterans and first responders often fall into the "Transition Trap." They apply their incredible work ethic to a broken business model. They work 80 hours a week, chasing every lead and trying to be everything to everyone, only to realize at the end of the month that their bank account doesn’t reflect their effort.

That’s the exact moment I care about—because I’ve lived in environments where the standard is clear: you don’t “try harder” on a bad plan. You tighten the plan, measure what matters, and execute.

Why Generic Consulting Fails the Operational Mindset

Most business coaches focus on "Top Line Revenue." They want to tell you how to get more followers on social media or how to spend five grand a month on Google Ads to "get your name out there."

To a veteran, that sounds like a reconnaissance mission with no clear objective and a high risk of casualties (your cash).

If you spent years in an environment where precision was the difference between success and catastrophe, generic consulting feels like being told to "just shoot in the general direction of the enemy and hope for the best."

We don’t do "hope" here. We do operations.

Those of us with an operational mindset need a system that is:

  1. Tested: It has to work every time, not just in a "best-case scenario."

  2. Scalable: It needs to function whether you have two employees or twenty.

  3. Profitable: If it doesn’t add to the bottom line, it’s just noise.

Accelerating Profit vs. Chasing Revenue

In the Insider Weekly piece, I talked a lot about the difference between revenue and profit. It’s the single biggest hurdle I see business owners face.

Revenue is a vanity metric. I know guys running $5 million companies who are broke because their overhead is $4.9 million. They are one bad week away from total collapse.

At Guardian Business Coaching, our philosophy is different. We focus on Profit Acceleration.

Think of it like this: If you’re leading a squad through a thick jungle, do you want to march 20 miles in the wrong direction just because you’re moving fast? Or do you want to check your compass, find the shortcut, and reach the objective with half the effort and twice the resources?

We aren't interested in making you "busy." We are interested in making you wealthy. We look for the "hidden profit" already sitting in your business that you’re currently ignoring or throwing away.

The Secret Weapon: 497 Million Algorithms

You might be wondering how we find this "hidden profit" without just telling you to work harder. The truth is, I’m a big fan of using superior technology to gain a tactical advantage.

We use a proprietary Profit Acceleration Software that utilizes 497 million different algorithmic sequences. It’s designed to analyze your specific business data and pinpoint exactly where you are leaving money on the table.

Most business owners are shocked to find that they could be making an extra $10k, $50k, or even $100k per year without spending a single extra dime on advertising. It’s not magic; it’s just better math. It’s the "Military Precision" the International Business Journal recently wrote about.

When you combine a Senior Chief’s discipline with data-driven algorithms, you stop guessing and start winning.

Why "Commander" Energy Matters

Business is a combat sport. Every day, there are competitors trying to take your market share, rising costs trying to eat your margins, and "consultants" trying to sell you the latest shiny object.

You need a coach who has been in the high-stakes world of the Navy and the Sheriff's Department. You need someone who understands that your business isn't just a hobby: it’s the vehicle that provides for your family and secures your legacy.

I don’t sugarcoat things. I don’t give participation trophies. I give strategies that work.

If you’re a veteran or a first responder running a business, you already have the "Commander" energy inside you. You just need to point it at the right targets.

Are You Ready for a Mission Brief?

If the Insider Weekly feature proved anything, it’s that the market is hungry for results-oriented leadership. The days of "fluff" coaching are over.

If you’re tired of chasing revenue and you’re ready to start accelerating your profits, it’s time to move. You didn't serve your country to end up a slave to a business that doesn't pay you what you're worth.

Here is how you can take the next step in your operational plan:

We’ll sit down, look at your numbers, and find that hidden profit together. No fluff, no BS: just a military-tested approach to making sure your business is as elite as you are.

Stay sharp. Stay profitable.
